Online Colleges that Offer Laptops
Do you need a laptop for college, but don’t have the funds available to buy one? Believe it or not, there are colleges online that offer laptops to students that need them. We have compiled a short list of colleges that offer laptops to students below:
List of Colleges that Offer Laptops
St. John’s University
STU’s laptop program, otherwise known as the Academic Computing Initiative (ACI), is available to all full time undergraduate freshman and/or transfer students. Be sure to read their online FAQ for usage terms, conditions, and applicable fees.
Stevens-Henager College
Stevens-Henager College offers a variety of technical and medical programs at the associates, bachelors, and masters levels. They offer laptops to all qualified incoming students, and the laptop’s ownership is transferred to the student once coursework is completed and the student has graduated.
Seton Hall University
Seton Hall University’s laptop program is an all-inclusive program that gives new students a brand new laptop at orientation. All laptops come preloaded with relevant software, as well as their Blackboard Teaching and Learning software required to access online courses and communicate with teachers and other students. After 2 years, these laptops will be replaced with new ones to keep up with advancing technology. These new laptops will then be handed over to the student once they graduate.
Catham University
Catham University offers a laptop loaner program to all full time undergraduate students and transfer students with the required credits. Students will receive their choice of a 13″ Macbook or Macbook Air and are equipped with a protective case and backpack, as well as Applecare Warranty and helpdesk services. Once graduated, the costs of the laptop are transferred to the student via their technology fee outlined in the terms & conditions.
Northwest Missouri State University
NMSU offers both a textbook and laptop program. The laptop program offers all full time undergraduate and graduate students a fully loaded laptop (see program page for details). They boast that their laptop and texbook program can save students up to $7,200 over the course of a 4 year stay.
Why Do Colleges Offer Laptops?
As a growing number of colleges and universities migrate their curriculum from offline to online, many of these same colleges recognize the high cost of laptop ownership combined with the need for one to access their online courses.

Read the Terms and Conditions
While some of the colleges on our list offer these laptops as a “no-strings-attached” option to needy students, there are many that come with caveats and conditions, such as rolling the cost of the laptop into the tuition or solely loaning the laptop rather than transferring ownership. Before jumping head first into a college laptop program, be sure to read the fine print.
