Iowa provides a nice employment environment for medical assistants. Although the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics ranks Iowa as being just slightly below average in employment and salary of medical assistants, it is close enough to the average to be an excellent career choice. According to BLS statistics, there are currently between 2,270 and 6,920 medical assistants working in Iowa. Those who have chosen this profession earn an average salary that ranges from $28,480 to $30,610, plus benefits. The salaries can vary greatly and depend upon education, level of experience, location, and job duties.

Iowa has many quality medical assisting programs available, most of which are accredited through the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools or the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.
